World Cup Fantasy Scoring Explained — How Football Points Work

Goals by position, assists, captain multipliers, and how season totals build across gameweeks — the complete football scoring reference for XI League.

footballworld cupscoringrules

Fantasy points only matter if you know exactly how they're earned. This is the complete football scoring reference for XI League's World Cup game — what scores, how much, how the captain multiplier works, and how gameweek points roll into the season leaderboard. Same rules for every manager, computed by the same engine.

Goals — weighted by position

A goal is not worth the same from every position. Rarer scorers earn more:

  • Forward goal: 40 points — strikers are supposed to score, so the reward is the baseline.
  • Midfielder goal: 50 points — extra credit for arriving from deeper.
  • Defender or goalkeeper goal: 60 points — the rarest events pay the most.

Strategy consequence: an attacking midfielder or a set-piece defender can out-earn a forward on identical goal tallies. Ownership tends to chase forwards; value often hides one line deeper.

Assists

Every assist is worth 20 points regardless of position. Creative midfielders who both score and assist stack the two — a goal-plus-assist midfield performance is 70 points before any multiplier.

Captain and vice-captain multipliers

  • Captain: 2× his total points for the gameweek.
  • Vice-captain: steps into the 2× only if your captain doesn't feature; otherwise contributes 1.5×.
  • Triple Captain chip: upgrades the captain to 3× for one gameweek — once per season, save it for a double-header or a favourable knockout tie.

From gameweek to season total

Points from every scoring event accumulate into your squad's season total, which drives your rank on the event leaderboard. Totals recompute automatically as official match data lands — the engine is deterministic, so identical stats always produce identical points for every manager. Extra transfers beyond your allowance (where enabled) deduct from your season total, so a panic transfer has a real price.

What XI does NOT score (and why)

Some fantasy games score minutes played, cards, saves, and clean sheets. XI's World Cup scoring is built on the officially verifiable goal-and-assist feed, keeping every point auditable against public match records. When richer official data streams are integrated, any scoring addition will be published here before it goes live — rules never change mid-gameweek.

Quick reference

  • FWD goal 40 · MID goal 50 · DEF/GK goal 60
  • Assist 20 (all positions)
  • Captain 2× · Vice-captain 1.5× · Triple Captain chip 3×
  • Season total = sum of all gameweeks − extra-transfer penalties
