Fantasy Cricket for Beginners: Your Complete Guide to XI Fantasy Leagues
Fantasy cricket is simple to start and deeply rewarding to master. You pick real cricketers, they score points based on actual match performance, and you compete against other managers for prizes. XI Fantasy Leagues runs full fantasy contests for IPL, PSL, and more — with crypto prizes distributed on-chain after every contest.
If you are completely new to fantasy cricket, this guide walks you through everything step by step.
Step 1: Sign Up and Set Up Your Account
Create your account at XI Fantasy Leagues — the process takes under 3 minutes. Once you are in, add your crypto wallet address in account settings. All prizes are distributed on-chain, so your wallet address needs to be set before you can receive winnings.

Step 2: Understanding the Credit Budget
Every match on XI Fantasy Leagues gives you a credit budget to build an 11-player squad. Each player has a credit value. Premium players — top-order batsmen, proven all-rounders, reliable wicket-takers — cost more credits. Budget management separates good fantasy managers from great ones.
You cannot just pick the 11 most expensive players. You need to find value: players who consistently deliver fantasy points relative to their credit cost.
Step 3: Build Your 11-Player Squad
Your 11 must include:
| Role | Count |
|---|---|
| Wicketkeeper | 1 |
| Batsmen | 3–5 |
| All-Rounders | 1–3 |
| Bowlers | 3–5 |
After picking your 11, you designate:
- Captain — earns 2× all fantasy points for the match
- Vice-Captain — earns 1.5× all fantasy points for the match
The captain pick is the single most important decision in every contest. A century from your captain is worth 48 milestone bonus points alone — double the 24 a regular team player earns.
Step 4: How XI Fantasy Leagues Scoring Works
Every on-field action your player takes converts to fantasy points:
Batting:
Each run = +1 pt. Each four = +1 bonus. Each six = +2 bonus. 50-run milestone = +8 pts. Century = +16 pts. Duck (dismissal for 0, top-7 batters) = −2 pts.
Bowling:
Each wicket = +25 pts. LBW or bowled = +8 bonus. 3-wicket haul = +4 bonus. 5-wicket haul = +16 bonus. Each maiden over = +4 pts.
Fielding:
Catch = +8 pts. Stumping = +12 pts. Direct run-out = +12 pts. Assisted run-out = +6 pts.
Playing XI confirmation = +4 pts per player confirmed in the starting lineup.

Step 5: The Most Important Habit — Confirm Playing XI
Never lock your fantasy team without confirming your players are in the Playing XI.
IPL and PSL teams announce their lineups 30–60 minutes before match start. A player not selected to play earns zero points. If that player is your captain, your contest is effectively over from ball one.
Always check Playing XI announcements before the match lock time. Enable XI Fantasy Leagues notifications — we push team announcement alerts the moment they go live.
Step 6: Claim Your Boosters
XI Fantasy Leagues gives you Boosters — special power-ups that modify how points are calculated for your team in a specific match. New players often miss these entirely.
Go to the [Boosters page](/boosters) and check what sponsor campaigns are active. Complete a task, claim your booster, and it appears in your inventory. Boosters are available for specific matches and can be the difference between finishing 3rd and finishing 1st.

Step 7: Build Your Season Squad
Beyond individual match contests, XI Fantasy Leagues has Season Squads — a 15-player squad you maintain across the full IPL or PSL season. Season squad performance contributes to your cumulative leaderboard standing and season rewards.

Common Beginner Mistakes
Picking big names over in-form players
A legend averaging 15 in their last 6 games is worth less than a domestic player averaging 45. Check form data in the player stats panel before every pick.
Ignoring bowlers
A wicket-taking bowler can outscore a 30-run batsman. 3 wickets = 75 base points. Balance your squad — at least 3 bowling options.
Wasting the captain pick on a middle-order batter
In T20 cricket, middle-order batsmen face 10–15 balls. Openers face 25–40. For T20 captain picks, choose an opener or an all-rounder who bats in the top 6 and bowls full overs.
Not using the leaderboard to track progress
Check the [Leaderboard](/leaderboard) after every match. Understanding where your team placed and why is the fastest way to improve your strategy.
